WILDLIFE
In Botswana, mornings begin on narrow delta channels where elephants move through the water with surprising silence. In Kenya and Tanzania, the plains seem to shift during the migration, while in Rwanda and Uganda, gorilla trekking replaces the safari vehicle altogether — hours spent climbing through thick forest before suddenly finding yourself face to face with them. Further south, a drive through the Kruger National Park may pause for lions stretched across the road in the late-afternoon heat, while Ethiopia’s highlands offer an entirely different kind of wildlife experience: gelada monkeys gathered along escarpments and Ethiopian wolves moving across the plateau above the clouds.
ART & CULTURE
Africa reveals itself as much through people as through landscape. In Morocco and Tunisia, daily life still spills through centuries-old medinas — metalworkers at their benches, spice markets thick with scent, cafés filling slowly as evening sets in. In Egypt, temples, tombs and monuments line the Nile with a scale and confidence that still feels astonishing thousands of years later.In Ethiopia’s Omo Valley, Suri, Hamer and Mursi communities continue traditions tied closely to ceremony, adornment and cattle culture, while Maasai communities in East Africa and Himba settlements in Namibia offer a more nuanced understanding of places too often reduced to safari alone.
